George Thomas of Farmersville is this week’s Grave of the Week. George was born May 5, 1924. When he passed, he was the last of 4 boys. He graduated from Tulare High School where he had many friends and was active in FFA, student council and the Letterman’s Club.
Mr. Thomas worked for many years at Dotter and Testerman in Visalia. From there, he opened a very successful liquor store in Farmersville called Sequoia Bottle. While operating his liquor store, he met and married the love of his life, Verna.
As a prosperous businessman, George served as director on the Board of Farmers State Bank. He, rightfully so, was extremely proud of his position. He was also a very civic minded man; he mentored many young baseball players, was a member of the sportsman club, the Moose Lodge, and the Tulare County Men’s Trade Club.
In his spare time, George collected coins and Elvis liquor bottles. He was also a keen card player. Those who knew him said he was “blessed with a happy attitude, he always had a smile for everyone.”
Please feel free to share any fond stories and memories of George here. Many families of those featured on Grave of the Week have expressed their gratitude that people still remember and care for their loved ones.
