Nicole Serrao

The purpose of Grave of the Week is to remember and share happy memories and times of those who have passed. All deaths are sad and regardless of age or circumstances, we all feel it is too soon to say goodbye to a loved one. We will all agree that the person featured this week was taken entirely too soon. But we should all be happy to remember her and the joy she brought to her family and friends rather than be sad that she was taken so young.

This week’s Grave of the Week is Nicole Serrao. Nicole passed at only 10 years old after fighting a heart condition most of her life. She endured and fought through five open heart surgeries and her strength was an inspiration to all.

Nicole was a student at Rocky Hill Elementary. She founded the Tech club at school and loved to participate in every talent show. She loved to camp, swim, and roller skate, especially with her friends and siblings.

In 2014, before her fourth surgery, her school, family, and friends celebrated her with help from the HEART program. She donned a red ball gown, tiara and wand and danced under a light show. Elsa and Anna were there to meet Nicole and present her with a special tiara. This event was a happy time for Nicole and helped her prepare for, and heel after, her surgery.

Nicole fought bravely after her fifth surgery in 2018, but unfortunately succumbed four months later. Her parents described her as a big light in a dark world.

Please share any happy memories you have of Nicole and let’s show her family and friends that we remember her and still feel her presence.
