On January 21, 2025

This week’s Grave of the Week is Troy Kemp who was born in 1923 and passed in 2017. When he passed, his family said it was, “the result of a call from above, as they needed a fourth for a 7:00 tee time.”

Troy was born and raised in Arkansas before moving to California in 1941. He worked in the shipyards in Alameda before joining the Merchant Marines, with whom he served for 10 years. Between 1943 and 1945 he sailed with the Coast Guard in the Pacific Theater. He helped to deliver goods and supplies. While a Merchant Marine, he visited Hawaii, Guam, the Philippines, and Australia. During his time off, he would visit family in Farmersville. On one of these trips, he met his wife, Virginia. They married in 1951 and spent 58 years together until her passing.

Troy and Virginia settled in Farmersville and he worked for Southern California Gas for 30+ years. He was also a part-time farmer. He was involved in many community activities. He participated with little league and he helped with the development of the parks. Troy also served on the Farmersville School Board for many years. He strived to promote a strong educational system for the community.

Troy loved the mountains and playing golf. He was survived by his two sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
